Cows have come in for some pretty bad press as far as climate change is concerned. But on our farm, cows play an integral part in helping us create a more sustainable way of farming, one that can actually help fight climate change.
“cows play an integral part in helping us create a more sustainable way of farming, one that can actually help fight climate change.”
We take a nature-first approach to rearing our cows. Come rain or shine they are outside in the fresh air. They graze on grass crops in the growing season and in Winter the grass is supplemented with freshly growing radishes and turnips. They move to graze on new grass every day so that they always enjoy the freshest crops – no need for monoculture crops for feed here.
Their diet means they stay super fit and healthy, that their meat tastes delicious and is richer in omega 3, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. But the benefits don’t stop there.
“Rearing our cows with this regenerative farming approach gives us healthy soil, healthy cows AND a healthier planet. That’s pretty incredible.”
As the herd grazes, they disturb and naturally fertilise the ground before they’re moved on to give the grass crops time to rest. These simple steps are perfect for generating strong new plant growth. As the plants grow, they draw in carbon from the CO2 in the atmosphere and secure it safely in our soil. This carbon feeds the bacteria and microbes in the soil and improves the health and quality of the soil, which in turn encourages more growth. The whole brilliantly perfect cycle then begins all over again.
Rearing our cows with this regenerative farming approach gives us healthy soil, healthy cows AND a healthier planet. We think that’s pretty incredible.
And when you compare this to some conventional cattle farming methods that actually release CO2 into the atmosphere, destroy biodiversity and obliterate the quality of our soil – we know which way we want to see farming go. Because #goodfoodchangeseverything
